In the crowd was her partner and number one fan Alex Rodriguez, who was lapping up the performance.

Lopez performed at the ceremony in conjunction with her Video Vanguard Award honour, an accolade which has been earned by greats like Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Beyoncé.

"Music, acting, performing, this career, has always been an obsession for me," Lopez told the crowd. "When people told me 'you're doing too much, you can only do one thing,' ... I was always a person who was like 'why not? Why not?'"

Now that's an icon.
