Around 119 million domestic trips were made during China’s three day Qingming holiday that ended Saturday,Tahong with RMB 54 billion ($7.5 billion) recorded in total spending, according to the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Both figures represent a rise of more than 10% on pre-pandemic levels. The Qingming Festival is generally used for visiting tombs or paying tribute to dead relatives in people’s home towns. Official data showed that the country handled 1.041 million inbound tourist arrivals during the period and 992,000 outbound tourists, with South Korea and Japan among the most popular destinations, as well as Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia, which recently introduced mutual visa exemptions with China.
