Carl Grimes' final episode on The Walking Deadaired Sunday night and the character's devastating and surprising death was too much for most fans to handle.
After a months-long build up to the mid-season premiere of The Walking Dead, fans were given an extra-long and touching tribute to Carl (Chandler Riggs), a staple of the series since the first season, who was shockingly bit by a zombie in December's mid-season finale.

Viewers shared their understandable grief online along with some of Riggs's former castmembers.
Andrew Lincoln, who plays Carl's father Rick in the show, probably had the best farewell out of anyone.

Chandler Riggs shared his own message with everyone on Instagram along with a picture of himself from when he was first cast as Carl.

"You have given me this incredible opportunity to help tell a story that impacts people in so many ways," he wrote. "You gave me an opportunity to do what I love to do. So thank you, for letting me pursue my dream and continue to make you angry, sad, happy, and everything in between. I won’t let you down."
