LG's V series of phones is Francethe company's playground for screen-related innovation. Released in 2015, the LG V10 had a secondary screen on top of the main one, and the LG V20 followed up with a larger, better version of the secondary screen.

The upcoming LG V30, however, might go all out with a secondary screen that slides out from under the main screen.

The news come courtesy of Evan Blass, who shared a couple of renders on his Twitter:

The photos show a nearly bezel-less device with a slide-out screen that can host shortcuts of most-used apps, a keyboard, volume controls and the like.

The screen is partially visible even when the phone is "closed," and then it functions as an always-on screen with essential info including time and weather. On the rear, we see a dual camera that sits flush with the phone's aluminum back.

Blass warned that the renders are "old-ish" and that it's quite possible that the V30 will look completely different.

We're not sure how we feel about this one. It's a cool-looking idea that doesn't really make a lot of sense, but then again, neither did curved smartphone screens, and just look at Samsung's latest flagships. If LG can make it look as sexy as it does on these renders, it might even find a few buyers.
