Of all the topics covered at the final presidential debate, softcore movies from gun rights to abortion, national debt and immigration, one word generated the highest number of Google searches during the first 40 minutes: Bigly.

The mass confusion was confirmed by Google Trends on Twitter as the gruelling match played out.

The word even topped the site's trending searches on memes, above "puppet," "bad ombre," "Donald Trump lips for eyes" and "Trump and Putin."

Merriam-Webster was also on hand to help point out the difference between "bigly" and "big league" -- something the dictionary account has been clarifying since at least February.

Good to see we're focussing on the important issues here.
