Warning: Contains blood-splattered spoilers for Killing Eve.
Creating a character that's genuinely terrifying is probably just as hard as creating one that's genuinely funny. But creating one that ticks bothof those boxes is truly impressive.
Enter Villanelle, the highly eccentric -- and highly unnerving -- assassin from the BBC's recent thriller Killing Eve.
Played expertly by Jodie Comer, Villanelle manages to switch from funny to frightening in the blink of an eye -- and she's all the more scary for it.
Here are some of her most memorably terrifying moments...
1. The time she demonstrates what happens to people who annoy her.

2. The time she barely flinches after getting hit in the head with a phone.
Via Giphy3. This chillingly honest admission.

4. This sudden appearance.
Via Giphy5. The way she casually disarms a chair-wielding MI5 boss.
Via Giphy6. The time she goes from the hunted, to the hunter.

7. The incredible ease with which she disarms Eve.
Via Giphy8. The time she uses a simple gift to play mind games with her boss.

9. Finally, the incredibly creepy look of elation on her face every time she kills someone.
Via GiphyYikes.
Killing Eve is available on BBC iPlayer in the UK, and available on iTunes or Amazon in the US.
